I LOVE CLOUDY DAYS! Look, brides may want blue skies for their wedding (and admittedly, it’s a lot less risky when it’s a bright blue sky out), but I love the drama that a cloudy sky brings to the images. So when Jeremy and I drove up to the venue, and saw the fog, we got excited.

We met Gavin and Laura back on their engagement shoot at Huntington Gorge (insanely gorgeous session btw, so you should check it out) and truly fell in love with them as a couple. But as we captured them getting ready, we realized they had an awesome group of people around them!

Gifts were exchanged (including Bridesmen in their silk robes), letters were read, and lots and lots of jokes and laughs were shared. It was so incredibly fun to be around them and just document them being themselves with the people the love the most.

When Laura slipped into her wedding dress, it was like magic. Truly. It fit her perfectly, the beading caught the light, and she physically glowed! It was no wonder the girls were misty eyed. I’m not gonna lie, I may have gotten a bit misty myself 🙂

Gavin and Laura met doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, a martial art form. As we walked with them through the gorge, Gavin told me about the first moment he saw her, and when he realized she was the one. For a long while after they met, they were just friends, and mutually became more (though some, before others). Their love is so pure, and so real, we were thrilled to just capture it. You can truly see it in their first look.

Gavin said that he knew how he always wanted to propose to her — on the jiu-jitsu mats where they first met and got to know each other over the years. When Laura thought that she had to grapple with him during class, and he pulled out a ring instead, in front of all of their mutual friends who had stopped what they were doing and had circled up around them to “watch them train”. Of course, they were all in on it. Sounded by their friends, Gavin asked her to marry him, and of course, she said yes!

There were so many incredibly moments in this wedding, and while editing I could still feel their love radiating through the screen. Seriously. They share so many passions together, and love building a community, meeting new people, and forming lasting relationships, and it’s those ambitions that really lend themselves to a strong foundation in their own relationship. I love it!

Gavin and Laura, we couldn’t be more grateful for being a part of your wedding day! It was truly a highlight of the summer, and we cannot wait to see what else you together, because I know it’ll be amazing.
